USA Highlights from the BPOTY 2019 Shortlist
Over the years Bird Photographer of the Year has received entries from all over the world – more than 60 countries in actual fact. Winners, who each received the main prize of £5,000 (more than $6,000), have come from Peru and Mexico to mention but two. For the 2019 Competition we were thrilled to receive an excellent selection of submissions from the United States of America and we would like to share some of our favorite shortlisted images.
Entitled ‘Cedar Demon’ this Western Screech-owl Megascops kennicottii was taken by Adam Stunkel from the USA in Portland, Oregon.
Entitled ‘Slim Skim’ this Black Skimmer Rynchops niger was taken by Joshua Galicki from the USA in Maryland.
Entitled ‘Bad Neighborhood’ this Barred Owl Strix varia was taken by Anton Sorokin from the USA in Washington.
Entitled ‘Glider’ this Peregrine Falcon Falco peregrina was taken by Ly Dang from USA in San Diego, California.
Entitled ‘Happy as a Lark’ this Eastern Meadowlark Sturnella magna was taken by Joshua Galicki from the USA in Maryland.
Entitled ‘The Tongue of the Hummingbird’ this Rufous Hummingbird Selasphorus rufus was taken by Madeline Nolan from the USA in Creede, Colorado. Madeline deserves a special mention because she has been shortlisted in the free-to-enter category Young Bird Photographer of the Year.
