Congratulations to our 2016 and very first Bird Photographer of the Year winner Andrew Parkinson from the United Kingdom for this unusual photograph of a Mute Swan on a Derbyshire river. As well as winning the £5,000 top prize, Andrew also collected a pair of Swarovski binoculars for winning the Attention to Detail category with this photograph.

Category Winners
Our very first Bird Photographer of the Year competition was held in 2016, and we awarded prizes for Category Winners and Runners-up only. The success of this first competition allowed us to expand the prize structure in subsequent years to the Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards in each category. The following images are the Category Winners in each of the eight main competition categories.
