BPOTY – Celebrating the best images from Hungary
Over the years, Bird Photographer of the Year has received some fabulous photography from our friends in Hungary, many of whom have picked up prizes and awards. 2019 was no exception, topped by Tamás Koncz-Bisztricz who won the Young Bird Photographer of the Year title with his colourful drone image of Mallards on one of Hungary’s soda lakes. Tamás won a pair of Swarovski Optik binoculars and £350.
The Silver Award in the Attention to Detail category was won by Csaba Tökölyi for his beautiful detailed image of a Little Egret’s breeding plumage and legs in the light of dawn. Csaba was rewarded with a gimbal head from our sponsors Gitzo.
Bence Máté is a photographer who has won multiple prizes in past competitions and was the very first winner of our Best Portfolio Award in 2016. This year Bence was awarded an Honourable Mention in the Bird Behaviour category with this stunning image of Great White Egrets. He also picked up a Commendation in the Best Portrait category for his amazing Hoopoe silhouette.
Also Commended is Irma Szabó for this Squacco Heron in the Best Portrait category.
Zsolt Szabó picked up a Commnedation for this European Bee-eater in the Bird Behaviour category.
2019 saw a lot of fabulous drone images including this amazing shot from Tibor Litauszki depicting Great White Egrets entered in the Birds in the Environment category.
Bird Photographer of the Year 2020 is now open for entries until 30 November 2019. The BPOTY team can’t wait to see what our photographers from Hungary have to offer the competition again.
